Our Story
Research began in 1986 into a new approach to treating wastewater. That work led to Digestco Limited being incorporated in December 1989, with subsequent patents secured to protect the technology.
At the time, existing wastewater treatment methods relied on manufactured bacteria (sometimes marketed as “enzymes”), detergents, or solvents — approaches that behaved unpredictably across different environments and weren’t truly environment-friendly. Digestco took a different approach: rather than introducing foreign bacteria, we asked how to make the bacteria already present in an environment work harder.
Our products are made by combining vegetable extracts into a high-energy carbohydrate. That energy is transferred to the resident bacteria already living in the environment, increasing their metabolic rate and effectively creating more “workers” to digest organic compounds. The result is a more complete digestion process, with no unwanted residual organic compounds left behind.
We don’t add bacteria. We feed the bacteria already there.
